Find out who and what makes our periodontal practice unique

Our Story

Rogue Periodontics + Laser Dentistry was born out of a shared passion for providing exceptional care and a commitment to the latest advancements in periodontal care to benefit our patients. Our dedicated periodontists started their merger with Dr. Malloy sending Dr. Ferrin a text message (one that he had spent a lot of time going back and forth on before deciding it wouldn’t hurt just to try).

Since then, they joined forces to create a practice where their patients feel comfortable and confident in their treatment. What began with a simple text message has now blossomed into a thriving partnership built on mutual respect, collaboration, and a genuine desire to help patients achieve optimal oral health!

Dr. John Ferrin

MEET THE DOCTORS

John Ferrin, DMD, MS

Dr. Ferrin’s path to periodontics is defined by a deep commitment to service. Born in Utah and raised in Mississippi, he learned the value of dedication early on. At just 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard, beginning a 14-year tenure that would deeply shape his disciplined approach to care and his connection to the community.

After earning his Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Dr. Ferrin pursued his dental education at the UNLV School of Dental Medicine. It was here that his passion for dentistry intersected with his dedication to service. As a student, he founded a clinic to provide free dental care to Veterans in need. Named in honor of his brother, Sgt. Clint Ferrin, who was lost in combat in 2004, this initiative stands as a testament to Dr. Ferrin’s values and earned him the prestigious ADA Foundation Award for student leadership.

Drawn to the surgical precision and transformative potential of implant dentistry, Dr. Ferrin advanced his training at the University of Kentucky's Periodontal Program. There, he mastered complex techniques including sinus elevation, ridge augmentation, and implant placement. He graduated with a Master's of Science and a certificate in Periodontology, solidifying his expertise in rebuilding smiles.

Much like Dr. Malloy, Dr. Ferrin is committed to elevating the standard of dental care in the region. He is a driving force behind the Rogue Excellence Dental Club, an affiliate of the renowned Seattle Study Club. His dedication to continuous learning and peer mentorship has been recognized with multiple honors, including the "Rookie of the Year" (2019) and the "Exceptional Leadership Award" (2021).

When he isn't in surgery or leading a study club, Dr. Ferrin is usually found outdoors. He is an avid ruck marcher, recently completing the grueling 24-hour, 40-mile GoRuck Heavy Challenge in New York City, and loves spending quality time with his children.

Dr. Kyle Malloy

MEET THE DOCTORS

Kyle Malloy, DMD, MS

Diplomate, American Board of Periodontology

Dr. Malloy's passion for dentistry was ignited early on. Growing up in an Air Force family, he had the privilege of living all over the country and abroad. It was during these years, while shadowing his father, a Prosthodontist in the Air Force and later the Director of Clinical Restorative Dentistry at OHSU, that he first discovered the blend of art and science present in dentistry.

His fascination grew as he spent time in a dental lab during high school, gaining a firsthand appreciation—this early exposure laid the groundwork for his academic journey. Dr. Malloy attended Gonzaga University for his undergraduate studies and continued his dental education at OHSU.

As a dedicated student, he was actively involved in student government, research, and various dental organizations. His academic achievements were recognized with numerous scholarships and awards, including the prestigious Hinman Student Research Symposium award for his work on CAD-CAM milling applications. Upon graduation with Great Honors, he was selected by the faculty as the top student in Oral Surgery, Implant Dentistry, Operative Dentistry, and Dental Material Research.

Driven by his desire for further specialization, Dr. Malloy pursued a three-year residency in Periodontics and Implant Surgery at OHSU. During this time, he gained extensive experience in soft tissue grafting, dental implant surgery, and complex dental procedures. His research on digital radiography and dental implants was presented at the Academy of Osseointegration's annual meeting.

Dr. Malloy's commitment to excellence is further evidenced by his board certification in Periodontology and Implant Surgery, a distinction achieved by only a select group of periodontists. He remains actively involved in continuing education and shares his knowledge through lectures on various topics, from soft tissue grafting to full-mouth implant reconstructions.

When he's not immersed in his dental practice or academic pursuits, Dr. Malloy enjoys spending quality time with his family, exploring the great outdoors, and cheering on Gonzaga Basketball!
