Dr. John Ferrin

MEET THE DOCTORS

John Ferrin, DMD, MS

Dr. Ferrin brings a wealth of cutting-edge periodontal training with him to Southern Oregon. Born in the mountains of Northern Utah and raised in Mississippi, Dr. Ferrin joined the U.S Army National Guard at the age of 17 and served for 14 years.

He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology with an emphasis in Physiology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He went on to earn his DMD at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine.

While attending dental school, he started a nationally recognized dental clinic to provide free dental care to Veterans in need.

The clinic was named Sgt. Clint Ferrin Dental Clinic after his brother, who neglected his oral health due to several deployments.

Sgt. Ferrin was later killed in action in Iraq in 2004. For his work in the clinic, Dr. Ferrin was awarded the ADA Foundation Award for student leadership.

During dental school, Dr. Ferrin found himself gravitating toward dental implants and periodontal surgery. He was then accepted into the University of Kentucky’s Periodontal Program. He received advanced, clinical based training in sinus elevation, ridge augmentation, soft tissue grafting, complex implant placement and pocket reduction therapy. He served as Chief Resident graduating with a Master’s Degree of Science and a certificate in Periodontology. He is continually expanding his knowledge and skills by attending continuing education courses from renowned educators in his field.

Dr. John Ferrin is director of the Rogue Excellence Dental Club, an affiliate of the Seattle Study Club. An organization recognized as one of the most advanced continuing education groups for dental professionals in the nation. Members participate in hands-on demonstrations, problem-solving workshops, panel discussions and clinical treatment planning sessions. Seattle Study club has recognized his commitment to continuing education and has been awarded both Rookie of the Year (2019) and with the Exceptional Leadership award (2021).

He enjoys spending time with his children and being active in the community. Dr. Ferrin also loves rucking (walking with a weighted ruck sack). He is an avid part of the GoRuck community and has completed the 24 hour, 40 mile, GoRuck Heavy Challenge in NYC, NY.

Dr. Kyle Malloy

MEET THE DOCTORS

Kyle Malloy, DMD, MS

Diplomate, American Board of Periodontology

Dr. Malloy grew up in an Air Force family which allowed him to live all across the country and abroad. He considers the PNW to be his home after living here the past 20+ years. His father was a Prosthodontist in the Air Force and later became the Director of Clinical Restorative Dentistry at the Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry. While growing up, Dr. Malloy shadowed his father and began to understand the art and science of dentistry at an early age and in high school started working in the dental lab at OHSU. This was where Dr. Malloy first developed an appreciation for dentistry as a profession.

Dr. Malloy attended Gonzaga University for his undergraduate education and then continued his education as a dental student at OHSU. As a dental student he was involved in student government, active in research, was the President of the Student Research Group, and received numerous scholarships and awards. He presented multiple research projects at national meetings across the country and received the award of Best Clinical Presentation at the prestigious Hinman Student Research Symposium for his research on CAD-CAM milling applications in dentistry.

Dr. Malloy graduated with Great Honors and received awards in Oral Surgery, Implant Dentistry, Operative Dentistry and Dental Material Research after being selected by the faculty as the top student in each category. Following graduation, Dr. Malloy elected to pursue further surgical training in Periodontics and Implant Surgery at OHSU.

During his additional three year residency, Dr. Malloy focused heavily on soft tissue grafting and dental implant surgery and restorations. Part of his training included rotations at the VA Dental Clinic treating medically complex patients in a hospital setting and at the main OHSU hospital with the anesthesiology department. Dr. Malloy received his certificate in Periodontology and his master's degree (MS). His research on digital radiography and dental implants was selected to be presented at the Academy of Osseointegration's annual meeting.

Dr. Malloy is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and is Board Certified in Periodontal and Implant Surgery. This is an achievement awarded to only a percentage of periodontists who successfully challenge the Board by completing the two year process involving both computer based and live oral examinations. Dr. Malloy continues to be involved in continuing education and study clubs and actively lectures on topics ranging from soft tissue grafting to dental implant surgery to full mouth implant reconstructions.

When Dr. Malloy is not treating his patients or lecturing, he can be found spending time with his wife, Katie, and their two sons. He enjoys cooking and camping with his family, watching sports (especially Gonzaga Basketball), and exploring the great outdoors.
